ASCAP Singer-Songwriter & Grammy Board Member DARREN describes his sound as "Clean, Simple & yet Emotional"
Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist DARREN has captivated audiences at festivals worldwide, but it's his live shows that truly spotlight the profound connection he shares with his fans. Whether performing solo or with his touring band and backing vocalists, the Washington DC-born musician masterfully delivers the intimate feel that makes his records so thrilling. His voice, with its effortless falsetto, opens his heart to the audience, creating a mesmerizing experience. With his smooth swagger and nonchalant coolness, DARREN's live performances are nothing short of exhilarating. Whether audiences are nodding along to his slick pop tunes or swaying to his soulful ballads, his shows are a scene you don't want to miss.
After the success of his debut full-length album "Instant Gratification" in 2010, DARREN continued to impress with "Sooner Or Later" and followed it up with "1985," his third full-length album. Blending modern soul and classic gospel, "1985" garnered positive reviews from critics, leading to DARREN being shortlisted as "An Artist to Watch" by Much Music Magazine and debuting at #10 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Charts.
DARREN credits his hometown of Washington DC with shaping his lyrical style and sound. His unique voice and style reflect the musical influences of legends such as Mary J. Blige, Lionel Richie, Teena Marie, Phyllis Hyman, Michael Jackson, Prince, Billy Ocean, and Natalie Cole. These artists have inspired his brand of heartfelt power ballads and edgy urban uptempos. From a young age, DARREN has been a dedicated student of the arts. He studied classical music at Suitland Performing Arts High School, under the tutelage of renowned opera singers, including the late Dr. Rose Bello, Gilchrist Sprave, and Angela Walker, who helped polish his vocal range and abilities. DARREN continuously seeks innovative ways to tell stories of love, hate, anger, and humility, pouring every part of his mind, soul, and heart into his music, and he believes in holding nothing back in his studio productions.
DARREN is carving an unconventional path in today's ever-changing music industry. He has graced the stage with some of R&B's legends and top recording artists, such as Tamar Braxton, K. Michelle, Kelly Price, Robin S., and Young Fly RED, performing at renowned venues and festivals like The Howard Theater, Verizon Center, The Fillmore, Chicago's Make Music Fest, and Atlanta's Piedmont Park Fest. DARREN is currently on tour in support of his acclaimed album "1987," released on October 1st, 2021.
